Three Reasons Why Collage Is Becoming My Favorite Art Form

Making collage is a little different than creating straight abstract paintings. It takes quite a bit more patience to create and definitely takes more time to create. I will give you my three reasons I am loving collages.

1. Collage fits into my art process very seamlessly. Since my main idea is to combine digital and real art, collage helps me to implements this by allowing you to paste, add subtract all different elements to the composition.

2. I have a vast inventory of source images. Old monotypes, paintings and digital prints provide a wealth of ideas for using these elements in the collage process.

3. I simply enjoy the exercise of cutting and glueing paper onto a wood surface. The challenge of getting all the elements to fall into a cohesive design is another challenge but we will save that for another post.

Note the image here called Walking Into Negative Space. This artwork started off as a black and white ink drawing that I wasn't that happy with. It sat for a while in my studio. Then I added a cut up digital art work into small colorful shapes. I collaged them on top of the drawing and I am much happier with the result.

I'd love to hear your opinion.
